About the Webinar Series
SEAOC is pleased to offer this series of webinars that detail key examples in SEAOC’s 2012 IBC Structural Seismic Design Manual (SSDM). The first series will focus on Volume 2, Light-frame, Tilt-up and Masonry Buildings. Three example problems will be presented along with related material in a total of five webinar presentations.
In This Webinar
Topic 2 of the series will cover example problems on Wood Light-Frame Construction and Anchorage to Podium Diaphragms. Doug Thompson will provide a detailed presentation of the wood light-frame three story structure example problem, as well as briefly discussing current directions in the AWC Special Design Provisions for Wind and Seismic design standard. Kevin Moore will present recent research in anchorage to concrete, applicable to wood light-frame structures on concrete podiums.
Registration for Topic 2 includes two webinar sessions and will cover a total of 180 minutes of material. The presentation material will be split across the following dates:

About the Speakers
Doug Thompson, S.E.

Doug received his Bachelor’s degree from Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo and is president of STB Structural Engineers, Inc. in Lake Forest and he is the immediate past president of the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California. He is a registered PE, SE in 6 states. He has authored several articles and publications, including the light-frame design examples in the Seismic Design Manuals, the Guide to the Design of Diaphragms, Chords and Collectors and Four-story/Five-story Wood-frame Structure over Podium Slab. He has been involved with code changes to the UBC and IBC for over 25 years.

With multiple state licenses, Kevin has more than 18 years of experience in structural engineering design, analysis, and evaluation. He is the Chair of the SEAOC Structural Standards Committee, Past Chair of the SEAOC Seismology Committee, and Chair of the Seismic Subcommittee of the NCSEA Code Advisory Committee. He has written multiple papers and design examples associated with steel design, seismic forces, and structural systems.
