Southwest Regional Manager of Codes and Standards Northern California

We are conducting a search for a national trade association of the forest products industry, representing pulp, paper, packaging and wood products manufacturers, and forest landowners. Our companies make products essential for everyday life from renewable and recyclable resources that sustain the environment. PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Conducts building code and standards development advocacy for the wood products industry on model, as well as state and local codes, reflecting current industry policy and latest industry technology. Reviews regulations proposed by others and prepares position papers in support of or in opposition to such changes in accordance with AWC policy. Participates in public hearings before legislative and regulatory bodies to express industry views on issues impacting the wood products industry. Monitors proposed legislation and ordinances at the state and local level and reacts as necessary to protect and expand wood markets. Develops and coordinates support from other interested parties in support of industry positions. Assist architects engineers, contractors, and builders with interpretation of building code requirements affecting wood products. Establishes a working relationship with the staff of model code organizations and other regulatory officials. Assists AWC members resolve regulatory acceptance problems with wood products. Develops and presents education programs to building officials and design professionals covering code requirements for construction and fire safety using wood products. Assists in development and review of technical publications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Interact with Building Officials and regulatory decision-makers to represent the industry to protect markets from more stringent requirements for traditional and engineered wood products.
• Expand knowledge in seismic engineering and seismic design. Support AWC in seismic related standard development activities and similar initiatives that may potentially affect the design of wood structures for earthquake resistance.
• Participate as a member, when desirable, on code development committees, code ad-hoc committees, standards development committees, and other activities deemed important to the interests of the wood industry. Support national, state, and local regulatory activities in a manner which protects, enhances and creates markets for lumber and wood products.
• Support and assist design professionals and technical personnel in gaining code acceptance of lumber and wood products used in construction. This includes acting as a resource for technical information and responding to questions from professionals and code officials.

QUALIFICATION:
• Must have extensive knowledge of building codes and other regulations that impact use of wood products.
• Must have excellent public speaking ability and good technical writing skills.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• College graduate with a degree in civil or structural engineering.
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) license is preferred.
• Should have a minimum of 5 years in code enforcement field, preferably with a governmental jurisdiction.
