Dear SEAOC Members,
It’s been a busy year for the SEAOC Foundation*, which has several exciting initiatives underway.
For starters, we continue to celebrate the launch of the SEAOC Foundation Research fund, generously seeded with $100,000 donation from SEAONC’s Raj and Helen Desai. The fund will hopefully continue to grow with more donations and help support future structural engineering research projects. Thank you again Raj and Helen Desai!
Secondly, the Foundation Board of Directors want to acknowledge the work of SEAOC’s College of Fellows and acting dean John Coil of SEAOC. In their annual meeting at the SEAOC Convention in Seattle, the Fellows approved the launch of an annual scholarship for SEAOC members enrolled in graduate degree structural engineering programs. Thank you SEAOC Fellows!
We at the foundation also look forward to seeing the results from our first research project we funded in 2014. The recipient, Jeff Hunt, is working with the SEAOC Post-Disaster Performance Observation Committee, (PDPOC) that serves SEAOC’s Earthquake Performance Evaluation Program EPEP. They are creating a searchable database of post-earthquake damage assessments performed by EPEP volunteers within a 500-foot radius of a known ground motion recording station.
Be on the lookout for our next project announcement in SEAOC Talk in the Spring of 2016!
And now for the giving part! For those of you that feel compelled to make a charitable donation this holiday season, we will be very happy to accept your donations however large or small. Please feel free to contact me or any of us on the Board about the Foundation’s work and how you might like to help.
SEAOC Foundation Chair
